Battery Management System – you are in charge

With a Battery Management System, You’re in Charge.

Ditch your bulky, heavy keychain. With the new e-Key remote, you can manage your boat’s main power functions on-board with a single key fob.

An e-Key is designed with car-like functionality, letting you remotely switch power on and off and control functions such as exterior lighting, heating, or media equipment from the dock. At the heart of the system is the Battery Control Module (BCM) that makes installation, operation, and maintenance easy and efficient.

Key Features Explained

Battery Control Module (BCM)

The Battery Control Module (BCM) acts as the main hub for the boat’s electrical system making battery status reliable and easier to monitor from a display at the helm. The system parameters can be preset so that information on the state of charge, state of health, time to empty, voltage and current are all easily accessible. Designed for the marine environment, the system significantly reduces the total number of components needed and maximizes reliability while on the water.

e-Key remote

With the introduction of the e-Key remote, Volvo Penta brings car-like functionality to boat ownership. A range of functions can be programmed into the e-Key including exterior lighting and main power – all of which can be operated from a distance.

Not only is the e-Key system designed for easier handling and increased theft protection, but it also authorizes access to on-board systems. Simply press “ON” to unlock the system – and press the start button on the e-Key panel to start the engines.

As default all main breakers will switch on/off when pressing ON/OFF on the e-Key Remote. If you want to exclude any breaker, this is done under user settings.

The system provides a feed-back signal that indicates when EVC is unlocked (one flash) and locked (two flashes).

With a variety of Battery Management System Control packages, you can find the right package for your boating needs. Feel free to contact us for more information on Battery Management Systems or to get yours today!

Boat Buying Made Easy

Buying a boat isn’t as painful as you might think!

Naturally, prices for new boats vary depending on size and make, but many boat manufacturers and dealers can put you in the captain’s chair for considerably less than a monthly new-car payment. In fact, monthly payments for many entry-level boats can be less than $250.

Boat buyers have many choices when it comes to paying for their purchase. Here are a few of the advantages of financing your purchase through your dealer with a National Marine Lenders Association (NMLA) marine lending specialist:

Lower Down Payments

The down payment is based on the age, type and price of the boat you are buying, as well as your own credit profile. In today’s market, marine lenders offer financing with down payments typically in the 10%–20% range, but often there are programs available through various manufacturers that could allow you to qualify for less, or zero-down on new boat specials.

Faster Credit Decisions

Because you are working with professionals in the marine industry, those lenders understand boats and their buyers. You can apply for a loan and often be approved in 24 hours.

Longer Financing Terms

Marine finance specialists recognize the value of a well-maintained boat, so terms generally will be more attractive than those not actively making boat loans.

Lower Monthly Payments

Because marine lenders extend longer terms on boat loans than local banks and credit unions, your monthly payments are likely to be much lower than you have expected.

More Electronics and Extras

Marine lending specialists will allow you to finance optional equipment, electronics, extended service plans and life/disability insurance coverage with your purchase.

By financing your boat purchase you can usually afford a newer, larger or more powerful boat, a better trailer and all the gear that it takes to make boating safer and more enjoyable! Visit us today at cedarport.com to find your next boat!

Volvo Penta’s Innovative Engines Named as Top Products of 2016

Volvo Penta’s Innovative Engines Named as Top Products of 2016

Volvo Penta’s next-generation engines have been making waves this year, and the newest development is their selection as one of the top products of 2016 by Boating Industry magazine.

Selected for innovation, creativity and impact on the industry, Volvo Penta’s new 5.3L 300 and 350 hp V8 gasoline sterndrive engines beat out hundreds of other entries that were introduced or significantly improved in 2016.
Volvo Penta’s next-generation engines introduce original features that have never been available to the sterndrive market, and are the first and only V8 marine gas engines combining the following technical advancements:

·  Variable Valve Timing (VVT) producing higher torque and acceleration across the full range of RPMs
·  Common-rail direct fuel injection for better fuel economy and lower emissions
·  Lightweight all-aluminum block for industry-leading weight-to-horsepower ratio
·  Freshwater cooling (FWC) for longer engine life in the marine environment
·  Wideband oxygen sensors to accommodate blended fuels and fuel quality

The innovations of Volvo Penta have been impressive, and we’ve been very upfront about how much we like what the company has been doing for marine engines. Not only have the features of the engines gotten better, but Volvo Penta has also made huge efforts to simply service and accessibility with the Front Engine Accessory Drive.

Congratulations to Volvo Penta – we can’t wait to see what you come out with next!

One-Key Remote Access for Your Boat – the Future is Here!

Who doesn’t want to be able to start their boat like they start their car? Volvo Penta’s new Battery Management System features an e-Key remote, giving you the ability to do just that. Now unlocking and starting your boat can be just like getting into your sedan. You can actually control the entire driveline with just one key, and the new system boasts other innovative features for improving safety, security and uptime.

Volvo has come up with this system to follow their mission of “easier boating,” and the features of this new system certainly make life easier. Now there’s no need to search for the ignition keys and circuit breakers – both are controlled remotely from as far away as 100 meters! You can also link other electrical systems, like your boat’s lights, to the remote so they are on before you step onboard.

The e-Key remote also gives you better security from theft, since each e-Key is connected to the vessel with a unique identifier. Only a valid key can be used to operate the system – up to four e-Keys can be paired up with the vessel.

But that’s not the only cool new thing. The Battery Management System has some handy new features for easier boating. For instance, the system provides alerts on battery statuses and diagnostic information so you can catch issues before they become serious. In fact, the battery management display lets you monitor the voltage of the many batteries on your vessel right from the cockpit instead of going to all the location to check on them. Plus, if you go to start the battery and it’s weak, the system will automatically borrow energy from the auxiliary battery.

It’s no secret that we’re fans of Volvo Penta here at Cedar port Marina, but can you blame us? This is just another example of how the company is pushing the boundaries with innovative solutions to make life easier for us boaters.
